Souper Bowl 2018: Eagles v.s. Patriots

A picture of the current donations

The Super Bowl is in four days and everyone is talking about it. Soon, you and your friends will have the opportunity to not only show them pride but also give back to the community.

This week, starting Monday, January 29th to Friday, February 2nd is the Super Bowl themed canned food drive named the Souper Bowl.

“I came up with the idea to help people who are less fortunate,” said Anthony Brown, who is a senior at Green Run High School. “Hopefully there will be enough food to donate. That’s what I’m aiming for.”

Donate cans along with Anthony to show support. The food collected from Anthony’s Souper Bowl will be donated to a local food bank in the community.

“Students and staff can drop off nonperishable goods in the cafeteria during breakfast and lunch.” Ms. Pickett said. Participants who drop off goods will get a ticket for each item they submit.

Ms. Pickett went on to add: “You place the food under the Patriot’s poster of the Eagles’ poster, both in the cafeteria.”

You write your name on the tickets that you are given and then place the tickets in the bucket of the team you hopes win. The number of items one person can bring in is unlimited.

There are prizes that will be awarded at the end of the drive: MP4 players, Starbucks gift cards, and other rewards that have not been specified. The prizes can be picked up in Mrs. Bishop’s office in the library or Ms. Pickett’s.

“After the real Super Bowl, tickets will be drawn from the bucket of the winning team to determine the winners of the prizes.” Ms. Pickett explained.

“This will help support some community members directly,” Ms. Pickett commented. “Other members of the community will see one more example of how Green Run students are giving back.”

So, if you’re a fan of football but your favorite team isn’t in the Super Bowl like Anthony’s Jets, then support our Souper Bowl.
