One For All, All For One (Lunch)
Caving in to popular demand, Green Run High School hosted One Lunch yesterday, on February 27th, 2018. Here's a recap of what happened, including my own personal opinion.
Initially, I was taken aback by the concept of One Lunch. I imagined it'd be a very crowded cafeteria, until I realized that One Lunch gave much more than just an opportunity to eat lunch. Looking at a slip of paper with several activities on it, I decided to bring along a friend and a camera to document this unique hour.
Being rather counter-intuitive, instead of going to lunch for one lunch, we roamed around the halls trying to find out what was going on wherever. It turned out the slips proved rather useless, since everyone was really doing their own things. We saw one room with a karaoke machine set up, with people inside all bunched up and listening in and singing along.
As much as we wanted to sing our hearts out, we kept moving, keeping an eye out for other interesting activities. Heading towards the tech hall, we noticed a room open with several ping pong tables set up. Entering in, we were greeted by a ping pong flying straight at us. Turns out we walked into quite an insane game of ping pong.
After settling down from a couple rounds of ping pong, we ventured out into the halls once more. Walking around, we found ourselves attracted to the sound of loud, boisterous music. We traced the music straight towards the band room.
A flash photo later, it seemed staying around to take pictures wasn't really the best idea. (Don't worry, I didn't actually blind anyone!) Heading towards the gym, I noticed there was a really long line of people. Like, really long. It didn't stop me from going in and checking out what was going on though! It was essentially just a place for people to shoot some hoops and play corn hole in the auxiliary gym.
Seeing as One Lunch was almost over, we decided to get back to the cafeteria to grab some grub. Immediately, we saw the whole place was crowded. Food was served outside of the cafeteria and inside, both areas being equally crowded.
Leaving my friend behind to eat his food, I perused around the hallways seeking for more things to do. I noticed several study groups, ranging from Math, English, History, and a few electives as well, including AP Psychology. Sadly, I couldn't take any pictures of people studying, but here's a picture of Hailey solving a puzzle instead. And some pictures of the "I-Land" kids chilling out.
As One Lunch was ending, I used up the final few minutes to just take a stroll around the school. I noticed that while there might have been some rooms set up for people, there were a few groups of people who set up outside of rooms. They all either just chilled out for One Lunch or played games, one of them even playing his guitar outside the Cafeteria.
I'm not gonna lie, One Lunch was pretty fun. The only real issues I saw were with crowding, and that advisory block was rather confusing that day. When the Juniors and Seniors were released during advisory block, a lot of people thought it was for One Lunch, but it was meant just for that advisory block. Hopefully by the next One Lunch (March 13th), these issues should be fixed. In all, I'm hoping the next One Lunch provides much more activities to choose from, and that it comes by quickly!
