The End of the Year is Here: Stay Focused and Positive

As we are approaching the end of the school year, it’s time to reflect on what exactly is left to do. For the past couple of months, we have been incorporating a ‘One Lunch’ program into our schedules. There has been mixed feelings from students and staff, but One Lunch may be the permanent schedule for the next school year. SOL testing is starting up soon. There are some students who stress about this, who fear failure, and study as much as they can to make sure they pass. There are the students who do not really care; they take the test and whatever happens, happens. In the middle though, there are the ones who keep their head high, study, and try their best. Some advice to help prepare yourself for SOL’s is to get enough sleep the night before. If you are well rested, you will be able to concentrate and remember information that is relevant to the type of test you are taking. Eat a good healthy breakfast. I know that saying is common and it can become annoying to hear, but it is proven that the brain requires quality nutrition to ensure optimum performance. Wear comfortable clothes, you are going to be sitting in one spot for a couple hours. Most importantly, stay positive. A positive mindset leads to positive outcomes. Green Run High’s Class of 2018 seniors are graduating in just one month! As a senior myself, as we get closer to graduation, school has been easy for me. That is not for everyone though. From my viewpoint, there are seniors stressing about all sorts of things; grades, exams, college, prom, graduation, and even just being motivated to push forward and finish out the year strong. I would like to say to ones struggling to make it through, look at how far you have come. Why mess it all up now?

There is big pressure on seniors to make sure they know what they are going to do after high school, but after discussing this topic with many high school graduates-- not having a set plan after high school is okay. It’s best to always remember that everything in life happens according to our time, our clock. Personally, I used to wonder why some of my friends seemed ahead of me? Driving, being accepted to several colleges, having a job, etc? I learned that they are living their life according to the pace of their clock. Be patient and know that you’re not falling behind, it's just not your time yet. “Graduation will finally approach and you’ll reflect on not only senior year, but all four years of high school,” said Kylee McGuigan of Odyssey Online. “I did my best to remember all the really great moments of high school, but I also remembered some of the not so great ones. They all helped shape me into the person I was at the end of high school, though, so how could I have regretted anything?”

So in closing, to the students of Green Run High, enjoy the rest of year as best as you can! To the ones who will be attending this school next year, don’t slack off. All of that will catch up to you in the end. Don’t be afraid to meet new people, the ones you wouldn’t even bother to talk to could end up becoming one of your really good friends. Engage with your teachers, they will be there to help even when it may seem like they don’t care. Most importantly, be yourself and have fun!
