Love Love, Simon
Love,Simon based off of the novel Simon vs.the Homosapiens Agenda is a story of a young man who is gay but doesn’t know how to come out to his family and community. Love,Simon is one of the most influential movies of the decade with multiple reviews claiming the movies success. The movie generated over $52 million box office wise from their original $17 million budget.
The movie as an overall grade would be B+ due to it’s more than adequate actors and great director; Nick Robinson’s portrayal of Simon Spier, the main character, was very entertaining as the audience could see and understand the emotions felt. The movie starts off with a fun loving theme and an overall energetic tone with Simon narrating throughout all of it. Simon one day meets this individual named Blue over the internet; an individual just like him who is also closeted. Simon and Blue eventually foster a relationship, which helps Simon accept who he is.
It has a freshness to it. Contrary to a lot of coming out movies that usually show the opposite with the gay individual usually left alone or without a happy ending. However, Love,Simon shows that gay relationships can also flourish just as much as straight ones. Although, there are also errors within the movie such as the attention Simon received for being homosexusal when in this day and age it is accepted freely.
This movie is great for encouraging those who want to come out and or those who want to grow into themselves. Simon had the courage to come out to his fellows peers which is not an easy task for a teenager. Coming out is opening oneself to criticism however after watching Love,Simon and his story it seems less ominous.
